WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

We came to the last round at Barcelona with some doubts about the championship’s regulations and how that could be determinate for our final classification at the end of the season. With our driver’s Jorge Ramírez’s performance in a clearly positive progression we just have to arrive to Montmeló and finish on top this amazing season, doing what we do best: fighting.

With the previous results we arrived to Barcelona with the top position on the 992 group, in contention with the Ukrainian driver Yurii Protasov, who with the rulebook in his hand was ahead of us if the championship may be stopped after Jerez, since at this championship drivers must discard their two worst results, and that moved Ramírez behind the Ukrainian. Unfair or not, those were the rules for all and that gave us no other chance than give it all and go to the track to win the championship on the last two races. And we didn’t expected less than that from our driver.

We were finding rythm during the private sessions on Friday and at the free practice on Saturday morning, going with all to the Qualifying session, where the track limits were again a constant menace. Our track engineer, Alberto Sánchez, adviced the driver about those track limits cautions from race direction, but the driver from Madrid was able to get an amazing lap time, getting the pole for the 992 AM, which also gave us an additional point basic for our championship chances.

The first race of the weekend took place at the afternoon and we were scared about our championship options due to a race collision between both drivers fighting for the title. Protasov did an irregular overtaking which caused an impact on the front left of our team’s Porsche 992. After the impact Protasov came out of the track and shortly after Jorge Ramirez had to retire because a radiator damage. The Ukrainian was disqualified after being helped to return to the track and at that situation both drivers went to the final race with the title on their hands after scoring 0 points on race 1. The title had to b decided on last race, with a new comer on the battle: Juan Pablo Vega of the team Hadeca. He finished the race scoring enough points to have possibilities for the championship. Tha gave us the best context for an epic last race. But before that we had a hard work on the box, fixing the car’s damages and replacing the radiator.

On that last race Jorge Ramírez started from last position on the grid, and with the championship in his hands he could just risk and find his best performance to get the feat. The Spanish driver did a spectacular start, overtaking many rivals and getting on the lead at the first turns. The team asked him to give it all and so he did, first with the start and later keeping his position against Vega, who was pushing hard. That was an exhausting race for the driver and also agonizing for the team, knowing that after each lap the triumph was closer. He finally did it. his best race of the season came on the last one, and he saw the checkered flag as 992 AM winner and 992 CUP Champion. The best reward for the driver, the engineers, the mechanics and the whole team, who have worked hard the entire season to give to Jorge Ramírez the enough confidence to belive in himself and for the championship on the track. This is the triumph of a team’s work.
